New Work: Jenny B. Photography

I am excited to share this new logo launch today, featuring Jenny B. Photography. Jenny is a good friend of mine and a talented wedding photographer based in the Alexandria, VA / Washington, DC area and runs a growing business from home while balancing life as a mom of two. It's been so fun seeing Jenny's business grow in recent months, and I've really watched her thrive in her business, her craft, and her drive to offer beautiful photography for her clients.

Jenny approached me a few months back about her growing business and her desire to give it a new, fresh face and online presence. So, we worked together over the course of a few weeks and came up with a logo collection that I believe represents her business well. Keep reading below for a recap of the design process.

You may remember this inspiration board I posted a while back. Our initial brainstorming session resulted in a color palette and look & feel that adapted quite a bit over time. While I stuck generally to the mood board with some hand-lettered concepts, in the end, Jenny chose a concept with clean lines and a traditional, serif font rather than a hand-sketched look, and we decided on a color palette with soft watercolor sage greens rather than bold pops of yellow. Though the end result is a little unexpected from original conception, I love that she chose a design that communicates timelessness and quality through the type as well a bit of playfulness and romance through the hand-drawn, watercolor leaves.

Though this logo looks pretty simple in the end, the process was extensive and thoughtful, and we went through several rounds of concepts with various font options, floral/leaf options, and variations. Another example of the sweet fruits of hard work and good collaboration!

You can find more of Jenny's work on her Website and Instagram.

I heard this idea from a friend recently (thanks @valthegal ), and I just love it. I really want to get better at starting my design days with a closed screen and just discipline myself to be creative, come up with my own ideas, and exercise my artistic muscles BEFORE I consume my social feeds for visual inspiration. I think our best and most original work can happen when we do this! (Also I fully realize the irony of posting this on social while talking about not looking at social) 🤷🏼‍♀️
Revisiting these wood shop logo sketches again for my husband’s carpentry collective AND working at our custom kitchen table today, built by the man himself. We’ve come full circle, people. 🔨
Sneak peek of a custom hand drawn icon for a current branding project, recently presented to a special client. This new project is giving me life, and I can’t wait to share more! Anyone want to guess the kinds of different plants represented here? 🌱🌱🌱
We got some unexpected snow this morning, and it’s still going and I love it! Are you team snow like me or totally over it??
First branding project of 2019 is underway! This lovely lady is a lifestyle photographer in North Texas who is about to launch her dream business into the world. We knocked out the brand strategy phase last week where we took a deep dive into the heartbeat behind her business, and now that we have a design direction, it’s time for me to get to work on her logo.

Her brand is all about emotive, modern elegance with a bit of a boho chic vibe. What words come to YOUR mind when you see this mood board?

Spent my Friday with my fun & crafty friend @rbkeith at the Old Town Alexandria Maker’s Mile. One ticket gets you access to 5 local shops with make-and-take craft stations (and an amazing canvas tote designed by a local maker). Loved this idea, and it was so fun to participate! Felt good to just step away from branding & computer work for a day and support local businesses, be creative in a different way, and make fun stuff with our hands.

Swipe to see a few snapshots of our day. 👉🏼

Guys, there are so many fun shops in Alexandria - here’s the lineup of stores that participated. Go check them out this weekend!
